Stronger Families, Stronger Schools

$6,206! That is the donation total from 27 individuals, couples and businesses on Giving Tuesday. Thank you!

Side by Side is marking its 10th year of equipping parents of elementary-school children to partner with schools and help their kids succeed in the classroom. In our decade of life we have helped 2,000 families!
Parents readily testify to the program’s impact:

  • “I give thanks to God and to Side by Side because it has helped me so much, as well as my wife and children.”
  • “We learned how to instill great habits in our daughter. She loves to read, she loves school, she loves her friends, she loves her teachers.”
  • “It’s great that this teamwork between parents and teachers is being nurtured.”
  • “The last report card we had for my daughter, she was 100% in mathematics; it’s been a huge success for my family.”
  • “It’s a program that gives us great ideas. I feel great to know that they are learning and advancing.”
  • “Side by Side has taught me that I am the best teacher for my children.”

Again, we are so grateful for the community’s generosity, helping us to help local elementary students and their families.

Side by Side is a faith-based nonprofit organization that works to strengthen Prince George’s County elementary schools in Laurel and Beltsville, Md. We are convinced that we and others in the community can and should build up local public schools into a source of pride and the best possible launching pads for children’s bright futures!

Great Start

Side by Side provides its Great Start program at six elementary schools. This is a series of free Family Nights in English and Spanish for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade parents. The events all include free dinner, engaging children’s activities for while parents are in workshops, and Spanish interpretation. Topics include behavior, reading and math.

The partner schools are Bond Mill Elementary, Calverton Elementary, Deerfield Run Elementary, James Harrison Elementary, Laurel Elementary and Scotchtown Hills Elementary.

Here are our 2017-18 school year workshop dates!

Hispanic outreach

Side by Side has worked with a group of parents at Laurel Elementary School, Padres Unidos por Un Futuro Mejor para Nuestros Hijos, to create a Hispanic parents guide for schools in Prince George’s County. The guide is being distributed to Latino families at five schools.
