Partnerships
Side by Side’s primary program partnership is with Prince George’s County Public Schools. We operate under a memorandum of understanding in which we have committed to provide programs to students and families without fee, and the school system has committed to furnish us the use of its facilities without cost, along with assistance in advertising our programs. Side by Side also has underwritten the cost of tuition for Prince George’s teachers to take continuing-education courses on parent-engagement strategies. This tuition assistance has come from our David Myers Memorial Fund, created by his family in honor of Myers’ lifelong dedication to teaching and his role as a founder and early board president of Side by Side.
Side by Side’s primary capacity-building partnerships are with Venture Philanthropy Partners and Fair Chance. In 2020 Side by Side was chosen by these nonprofits to be one of four Prince George’s County organizations to embark on an intensive Ready for Work program, receiving three years of mentoring and management consulting.
Side by Side also has partnered with fellow Prince George’s nonprofits. It has provided parent workshops for Community Youth Advance at the organization’s Saturday School tutoring and enrichment program. It also has partnered with First Generation College Bound, which offers services to former Side by Side students when they reach high school.
We also treasure partnerships formed with numerous churches, which supply volunteers and donations; and the financial support of foundations, government agencies, businesses, civic organizations, and hundreds of individual supporters.
