Great Start
Our flagship program is called Great Start - a series of 16 free family nights at a central location in Prince George’s County. We partner with 6 local elementary schools to bring parents of students from pre-K through 2nd grade an engaging program to equip them with skills and strategies to better support their young learners at home. Parents have the option to participate in-person or online through a Livestream of the event on YouTube and on Zoom. Our program also integrates resources for Spanish speakers by providing translation services online and in-person.
The family nights are on weeknights from 6 to 8 p.m. They consist of:
a dinner for the entire family
children’s activities – a mix of learning and fun
parent workshops for Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten and 1st/2nd grade led by certified PGCPS current and retired teachers
interpretation for our Spanish speaking families (interpreters of other languages can be made available if pre- requested)
specially selected and created materials to support parents’ efforts at home in implementing the skills and strategies learned at Great Start
Registration is Easy as 1...2...3!
1 week before each scheduled session fliers are sent home with your learner. Check their folder! Check their backpack! Complete the registration portion at the bottom of the flier and send it back to your child’s teacher.
You can scan the QR code on the fliers that came home with your child. This allows you to register online and sign up for as many sessions as you like at one time. This is definitely the easiest method!!
